March 10, 1940 - January 3, 2025
Saundra Elaine Fields, 84, of Binghamton, NY, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at home. She was surrounded by the love of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her parents, Rev. Leslie and Barbara Fields, Sr.,her son, Darrick Wilson, sisters, Nettie Woolfolk, Lillie Colvin, Margie Powell, Mary Mikulski, Rhoda Fields, Mildred Louise Amar, and Dorothea Cornwell; brothers, Gilbert, Leslie Jr. She is survived by her brother, Walter Fields, her children, Robert Adrian, Saadia, Barbara, Natra, Damita, Tosha, and Qievia Wilson; grandchildren, Jason and Jessica McCray, Jentai, Jenteal, and Breon Wilson, Kypria, Miguel, and Karmen Santiago, Suquaya Miles, Francis and James Onyeike, Joquet, Drannen, and Qutaris Love; six great-grandchildren, and a host nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also leaves behind her former husband, Horace Porter, with whom she remained friends until her death. Horace still maintains a close relationship with Saundra’s children. She was especially fond of her two childhood friends, Elaine Geder and Suzanne Moody, former co-worker, Chris Hine, and lifelong friend, Dr. Patricia McAuley.
Saundra retired from Marine Midland Bank, as a Bank Teller, after many years of service. She was a spiritual person, and regularly attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Binghamton, NY. She loved her spiritual brothers and sisters very much and believed she would one day see them again in paradise, Acts 24:15. She was known in her community for being a generous, loving, and compassionate woman. Her nickname was “Kitty”. She was a true matriarch for her family. She had a beautiful welcoming smile, loved to laugh, and was well-known for making others laugh. Her favorite past time was entertaining family and friends, watching figure skating, and listening to her favorite singer, Johnny Mathis. She loved animals and had many house cats and dogs over the years. Her favorites were Blizzard, her German Shepherd of 15 years, and her calico cat, Shia. She always fed the stray cats, and other local wildlife, even calling some by name.
A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Guthrie Lourdes Hospital. They got to know her personally and always loved her sense of humor. Vestal Park Rehabiltation Nuring Home for their care (a special thanks, Tara and Mindy). Her reliable aide Debbie of STIC. The Nurses and aides at Guthrie Lourdes Hospice Palliative Care Unit, who were with Saundra and her family through their difficult journey every step of the way.
The family will receive visitors at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango Street, Binghamton, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 5 pm until 7 pm, followed by a memorial at 7:00 pm. A funeral talk will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 184 Castle Creek Rd., Binghamton, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2:00 pm.
