Stephen was a proud U.S. Marine and a veteran of the Korean War. Committed to his community, he dedicated many years of service to local organizations. He was a life member and Vice Commander of American Legion Post 1194, served as Assistant Fire Chief for the Hillcrest Fire Department, and held a position on the board of directors at the Chenango Valley Cemetery Association. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and the Operating Engineers Union, along with the Marine Corps. League, Cattleman’s Association and the Home Builders Association.

Going by the stage name of “Steve Star” he competed regionally in the rodeo, mainly in bull riding and bronco riding events.  He was very proud of his black stallion “Highboy” who he raised from a colt and showcased his many tricks by performing for local horse events and entertained the kids.

He spent over 60 years as a successful business man in the excavating and contracting businesses. He was known and respected by all generations of folks in the triple cities area, not only for his business acumen but also for his sense of humor, storytelling, yodeling and harmonica playing. He loved to entertain!
