Binghamton: William Smetana, 96, passed away suddenly September 16, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents Anna (Demchak) and William Smetana, and his wife of 63 years Alice in 2015. Bill graduated from Dalton High School (PA) and Temple University. He served in World War II in the Air Force. He worked for Singer-Link for 38 years and was a member of American Legion Post 1645. He is survived by his sister Helen Smetana of Dalton, PA; a step-daughter Julia Rowland of Tacoma, WA; 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He loved golf, bowling, watching NASCAR and an occasional casino bus trip. He played in all three area Senior Golf Associations (Tri Cities, Broome and Tioga) until arthritis took over.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. Burial with military honors will follow at Chenango Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 10-11 am. (Due to road construction, access Chenango St. from Bevier St.)
