More and more people today are taking the time to discuss their funeral planning. Pre-planning your funeral makes good sense. AARP suggests that everyone should pre-arrange their funeral. Pre-planning allows you the time to talk, investigate, compare, and come to decisions that will meet the needs of both you and your surviving family.
There is no cost involved to meet with a funeral director, and it only takes a few minutes to discuss the basic information you will need to make an informed decision. Pre-arranging can be as simple as providing the funeral director with your name, address, and person to contact upon your death or it can be as thorough as planning every detail of your funeral and pre-paying the entire amount. It can also be somewhere in between. You are in total control. We are here to listen to you and help you prepare a meaningful ceremony for your family
In New York State if you pre-pay your funeral, your payment is deposited in an FDIC insured funeral trust, naming the funeral home as the beneficiary of the trust. The funeral home does not receive payment for the services until the actual service is provided at the time of death. The interest earned on the trust is applied to any price increases due to inflation. Currently funerals prepaid in our trust earn approximately 3% APR. Except in a circumstance involving medicaid spend down for nursing home residents any money paid in advance on a funeral is fully refundable to the purchaser at any time for any reason.
Pre-arranged funerals are also fully transferable from another funeral home with no penalty to either the purchaser or their next of kin. Many times personal friendship and relationships change and an individual wishes to move their plan from one funeral home to another. It only takes a few minutes of time and some simple paperwork. These transfers can occur at any time up until the service of another funeral home have actually been utilized. Since our prices range from hundreds to thousands of dollars less than other area funeral homes, usually transferring your plans here will result in a refund to your your family.
Funeral Planning in Advance:
- Puts you in control and ensures your wishes will be known.
Survivors may not know your wishes — or may assume they do know your wishes. Pre-planning allows you to express your thoughts and feelings, with the benefit of time to make the best decisions, for you and your family
- Provides social, psychological and emotional benefits to your loved ones at a difficult time.
Not only does it simplify the funeral process for your survivors, it also eases the stress of deciding what you would have wanted.
- Allows you to set aside funds and relieve your family of a financial burden.
Since it is difficult to predict what your family’s financial situation will be at the time of your death, pre-funding ensures that an amount you consider appropriate will be earmarked for the funeral.
- Provides the peace of mind of knowing that "your affairs are in order." You'll be comforted by the assurance that your family and friends will be relieved of the burden of making funeral arrangements when you die. And you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that they will appreciate your concern for their well-being.
