Harpursville: David Scott Savitch, 49, died May 5, 2015. He is survived by his loving mother Betty of Harpursville and brothers Michael and Larry. He was predeceased by a brother Gary in 2012.

David grew up in New Rochelle NY with his 3 brothers, Michael, Gary and Larry.  He always looked up to his older brother Michael. And admired how caring and levelheaded Michael was and kept his cool especially when David, Larry and Gary were running wild.  But all 4 boys had an immense amount of fun together.

David was a very caring and generous person, willing to do anything for anybody, he was loved very much by everyone he came in contact with and he loved them right back.  David was just unique, always worrying about people, unexplainably good and considerate of others.  In 1990 my mother moved upstate and bought a farm, soon to follow in 1992 David moved up as well, he lived in an apartment for about a year and then moved into the farm with his mother because of his love for animals.  He was essential in taking care of the entire farm and absolutely loved every aspect of it from walking the horses, bucking the stalls, feeding the horses and hanging together with mom.  David had a pet cow named George.  He took George home in a station wagon and he used to ride the cow like a horse.   He also helped give birth to a cow, he put chains around the hind feet and hooked it up to a small tractor and pulled the baby out of the mother.  David and his mother delivered many baby horses (foals) cleaned them up and took care of them.   David also delivered horses locally to and from the farm.  His two long trips were to Cape Cod and Ohio.

In 2005, mom sold the farm and arena and bought a house in Harpursville on 6 acres and put another house on her property for her sons David and Gary.  David  loved taking care of the home and property.  He mowed the grass, plowed the driveway.  He loved riding the 4 wheelers with his brothers Larry and Gary.  David went to 4 wheel rallies and had fun together.

David Savitch Eulogy – May 7, 2015…died May 5, 2015 at 1:38 AM.
We are extremely saddened by the passing of my brother David.  My family and I are thankful for your attendance today, and for all of your best wishes and all your caring support.  We greatly appreciate it.
David was one of the most caring individuals we ever knew, he saw no limits when it came to empathy and generosity and true kindness.  Other people in his life always came first.
Dave was an inspiration as to how he embraced life with strength and courage; always finding laughter in any given moment. I am equally touched by how my brother Larry emulates David and Gary with their strong will and infectious enthusiasm!  David had a great sense of humor, a wonderful smile...His smile was so powerful, that it brightened the lives of all he touched. Which reminds me of a story that just took place, while spending several hours with David Monday night, holding his hand, talking with him by his side, the nurse had mentioned to me that David had been in the hospital several times before and she remembered him.  She didn't necessarily remember him by name, nor did the other nurses, because they have so many patients, but she told me that all the nurses knew him by his charismatic contagious smile.
Our family had so many wonderful times. One visit in particular; stands out in my mind when Marissa, Andria and I came to Absolute to visit Uncle David and Uncle Gary. We spent four to five hours just sitting in their room talking and laughing…I think David and Gary laughed and smiled the entire time. My daughters and I loved it! I specifically remember, at one point my brother’s saying that they didn’t know how to navigate certain procedures on their cellular phones, so at that point Marissa and Andria went over to them and walked them through the steps and showed them how to set up their phones. I know David and Gary loved having their nieces over their shoulders helping them out. It’s funny, at the time… what seemed to be a meniscal, was really a very meaningful special moment that we all will cherish forever.  Marissa and Andria send their love and prayers and best wishes, they could not be present because they are away at college.
Another joyful memory was in Brooklyn with Grandma and Grandpa, As young boys, full of energy and fearlessness… I remember David asking Grandpa about his tools and how to work things and spending most of the day in Grandpas workshop with his tools.  Some other fond memories, we treasure took place in Yonkers and Miami Beach, Florida with our other grandparents, Mimi and Poppy. We used to snowbird in Florida every year for over a decade. What precious times we shared…we enjoyed the pool, swam in the ocean, and walked the beach.  Just being together with family were special times specifically with Mimi and Poppy.   Mimi and Poppy couldn’t do enough for us boys, and always wanted to do more, just like David always did. We had some pretty awesome times in Florida together!  I’m sure Mimi and Poppy and Grandma  & Grandpa and Gary are welcoming David now with open arms, and they are all together.
I’ll always cherish the wonderful times Gary, David, Larry and I had together during the summers at Camp Winadu.  Just us brothers, getting away from our parents, while giving them a break from us four boys. All of us playing sports, swimming, sailing and just having fun.
Growing up, one of my favorite stories, and one of David’s all-time favorites, that I’m sure many of you have heard before, was the “grilled cheese story.”  I can recollect every time he told this story; there was more laughter than words.  I often wonder if David telling the story, was more entertaining than the content of the story itself. For those of you that aren’t familiar with it, please allow me to share it with you.
Being the oldest brother, I got to stay up the latest.  I used to love eating at night, as I still do.  But when my brothers went to sleep I used to make these really good grilled cheese sandwiches, which my brother’s knew about.  They were jealous that they had to go to bed and I was pigging out on these perfectly toasted grilled cheese sandwiches.  Since I knew they loved them so much, particularly David, when my parents were watching TV or reading, I used to make a couple of extra sandwiches and sneak them up to David.  I used to sneak in the room, leave the light offs. Tap him on the shoulder, he’d turn over and I’d have a plate full of grilled cheese sandwiches.  We munched on them together while he was in bed under the covers.  He really enjoyed that.  Those were special times that we’ll always cherish.

David is now with our brother Gary, our Dad, Grandma and Grandpa, Mimi and Poppy, and the rest of our family and friends.  They are all in our hearts and prayers forever.  May David and all of them rest in peace, we love you.
