You are invited to share memories and messages of sympathy with Loucine's family in her online guestbook.

It is with sadness that her family announces that Loucine Szentendrey (née Fattal) passed away peacefully on March 27th, 2015 after a recent illness. She was 85 years old. Loucine was predeceased by her husband, Julius Szentendrey, her previous husband, Vahe Sarkissian, her parents, Marie and Abdallah Fattal, and her brother, Dr. Garabed Fattal. Loucine is survived by her daughters, Socie (Diran) Kradjian of Binghamton and Ani DiFazio of Maryland. She is also survived by her devoted grandchildren, Christopher (Elizabeth) Kradjian and Nicole Kradjian of Binghamton as well as her namesake and beloved great-granddaughter, Loucine Kradjian. She is also survived by two brothers, Avedis (Jacqueline) of Brussels, Belgium and Jean (Sona) of Lexington, MA, two sisters, Anahid Turabian of Canada and Laurice Fattal of Damascus, Syria, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Loucine was born in Itlib, Syria in 1929 to a family of six siblings. She always spoke with such affection of their idyllic childhood and the deep values of love, faith and family that her parents instilled in their children. Her father was a highly respected judge and parliamentary leader. Her parents were deeply proud of their Armenian culture and Christian religion and these values would come to define Loucine’s life. After moving to Boston, MA with her husband and young daughters, she eventually pursued her professional calling by working at the Harvard University library. Loucine was a prolific scholar, writer and artist who authored three books focusing on her Armenian heritage, traditional Armenian costumes and the origins of her family of whom she was so proud. In addition, she compiled an oral history documenting personal experiences of those affected by the 1915 Armenian Genocide. In 1982, Loucine and Julius moved to Binghamton to be close to her growing family and to be a presence in her grandchildren’s lives. For this, Christopher and Nicole are eternally grateful. She taught them the values that were instilled in her and they proudly carry those to this day hoping to impart their children and grandchildren with the same virtues of love, compassion and patience. It was in Binghamton that Loucine first became an entrepreneur and opened Galleria Fashions, a lady’s apparel store that reflected her love of fashion and design. She continued to read, write, enjoy bird watching and nature walks, as well as travelling and spending time with her family in her retirement. She will be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend with a gentle soul that was as beautiful as her warm eyes. She lived her life with grace, compassion and love and positively impacted those who had the pleasure of knowing her. The family would like to thank the staff of Susquehanna Nursing home for their compassionate care as well as the staff of the PCU at Lourdes Hospital during her recent stay. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 1st at St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church in Binghamton. Services will follow at 11:00 am, officiated by Fr. Daniel Findikyan. Donations made in Loucine’s memory to St. Gregory’s Church will be appreciated.
