Rudolph “Rudy” Sedlacek, 93, passed away November 25, 2014 at the home of his caregivers, Joanne Payne, David Foster and Derek Foster. He was a lifelong resident of Port Crane and served the Town of Fenton as Highway Superintendent for over 35 years. Rudy is survived by his wife Mary, his caregivers Joanne Payne and David Foster and Derek Foster, and his best friend Charles Kark and his canine pals Dusty and Kara, along with countless neighbors and friends he made during his years of service to the Town of Fenton and also neighboring towns. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Agnes, a brother Fred and sister Mary. He was raised on the family farm and with his family operated the Sanitaria Springs Bottling Co. After retiring he was a big hearted man and could always be found plowing snow for his neighbors, building and repairing (Rudy-rigging) things for himself and others as well as volunteering at the Path of Life camp. He was deeply proud of the home he built for himself, with bricks he purchased after they fell off a train, as the result of an accident. Although never a firefighter, the Port Crane Fire Dept. recognized his service to Port Crane by naming the road to the new fire station, “Rudy’s Way”.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm Sunday December 14 at the 1st Baptist Church of Port Crane. He was buried with his family in Spring Forest Cemetery. Services provided by the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. Please sign his online guestbook at www.HEFUNERALHOME.com
