Sharlah “Charlie”/ “Shar” Ramnarine-Singh was born on December 3, 1972, to Diane and Lal Ramnarine-Singh in Tarrytown, NY. Charlie's early years were spent in the nurturing community of Elmsford, NY., where he learned the values of family, hard work, and the love of knowledge, which would guide him throughout his life.
Charlie was a graduate of Ithaca High School in Ithaca, N.Y. His pursuit of higher education led him to Binghamton University, where he distinguished himself by earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Management, a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development, and a Master of Arts degree in Social Science with a concentration in Student Affairs and Diversity. These academic accomplishments were a testament to his commitment to understanding human experience and society. Professionally, Charlie found his calling at SUNY Broome Community College, where he served as an Academic Advisor. In this role, Charlie was more than just an advisor; he was a mentor, confidant, and advocate for the students he worked with. His passion for education and genuine care for student success made him a beloved figure on campus. Beyond his professional and academic achievements,
Charlie was known for his love of things mechanical, a passion that turned into a profound appreciation for bicycles and older cars. His knowledge of bike construction and love of cycling was not just for personal satisfaction but was generously shared with his nephews and nieces. Charlie's commitment to cycling was evident in his daily 5.6-mile bike rides to and from work. Charlie was known for his quiet demeanor, integrity and reliability which all spoke volumes about his character.
Charlie passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, and his departure has left a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his mother, Diane Ramnarine-Singh; father, Lal Ramnarine-Singh; aunt, Shelley Smith (Iben); sisters, Tahrah Ramnarine-Singh and Subryah Davis (Donnell); brother, Rasheem Goodson (Tenny); God-Brother, Naeem Price; nephews, Josiah, Donnell, Jaqwel, Dennis, Nycire, Noah, and Aden; nieces, Kaliyah, Subryah, Symiah, Su’riyah, and Sy’miah; and a host of other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday March 16 at the Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church, 44 Main St. Binghamton. There will be no calling hours or visitation.
