In the early morning of November 29, 2018 Gloria Winfield Dattoria peacefully returned home to join her Heavenly Family and the Lord. Although a stroke left her without words, and alzheimer's denied her recognition of the familiar in recent weeks, she smiled sweetly each time her husband of 70 years sat by her side holding her hand. Her expression showed happiness when seeing her children and grandchildren. She still received and gave love. That, she still remembered. Gloria was one who could always light up the room with her smile. She had a fun-loving spirit and an ability to open her heart to anyone. She was always for the underdog and taught her children to not speak badly about anyone. She would laugh till she cried. She loved teaching baton, making ceramics, boating, golf, swimming and family gatherings. Gloria worked for Broome Community College and Norman J. Davies Architecture for many years after raising her family. In her youth she and her husband excelled at roller skating and dancing the jitterbug. She also could play any song on the piano even though she couldn't read sheet music. Gloria was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and a friend to all she knew. She is survived by her husband James, their children, Marcus (Sharon) Dattoria, Linda (Tim) Moses and Michele (Tony) Robinson, 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am. She will be buried in Kattelville Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to F.A.C.E.S @ NYUFACES.org.
