Nancy Ann (Nivison) Shoemaker

Nancy Ann (Nivison) Shoemaker, 82, passed away to be with Her Lord on July 14, 2019 after a four year battle with cancer.  She was predeceased by her parents Naomi and Arlo Nivison, husband, Jim and is survived by her children whom she loved dearly, Traci, and Jeff (Andrea) Shoemaker.  The lights of her life were her grandchildren and their significant other more than anything, Kelsey (Bruce) Laubacker and Griffin Shoemaker and fiancée, Mayana Rose Trecoske. Growing up in Johnson City, NY, Nancy had a lovely singing voice and was active in her church choir and would sing at the piano during family gatherings.   After graduating from Union Endicott High School in 1955 Nancy went into the work force. She worked at Garrett’s Hardware store for much of her adult life and then worked and retired from Binghamton University. She supported her children growing up in of all their endeavors even visiting Alaska when daughter Traci lived there and attending many, many baseball games that Jeff pitched in both locally and in Kentucky where Jeff attended college.   Nancy was an avid fisherwoman, knitter, bird watcher, and reader for much of her life. She loved to use her binoculars at their summer cottages to keep an eye on things around the campground and would  spend many an hour playing solitaire. Nancy was well-known for her apple and strawberry rhubarb pies and was often asked to make them for family functions and even shared her pie crust recipe with a local restauranteur. Her grandchildren were her life and she spent much time with them playing, reading, watching TV, fishing, swimming, and attending concerts and plays they participated in growing up.  The family will have a time of remembrance to celebrate her life on August 10th, 2019 at her home.  4159 Cheryl Drive, Binghamton, NY13903.  Hours will be from 2-6.
