Chrissy Miller Obituary

Chrissy Miller (Christine Marie Gurka), 55, of Endicott, NY, passed away on Friday, August 7th, 2020 after a hard and fast battle with cancer. Chrissy was born on October 7th, 1964 to Julia and Theodore Gurka in East Stroudsburg, PA. She was a bookkeeper for 15 years. In 1979, she met Adam, the love of her life and they wed in 1981. They went on to have two children, Jesi and Zach. Chris was light and happiness. She was warm and welcoming. A hippy at heart, she loved nature, gardening, music, VW Vans, traveling to the ocean shore, shiny knick-knacks, antiquing, penguins, Winnie The Pooh, dolls and especially her Beagles. Chrissy was a passionate advocate for animals and when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she was filling it with pets. Being a mother was a great joy of Chrissy’s life. Recently, her pride and joy was becoming a Grammy to Teagan. While having a gentle nature, she did not shy from adversity or controversy when supporting her loved ones in being themselves and achieving their potential. She was generous and caring, always thinking of others and excited for what life had to offer.  If Mother Earth walked among us, it was her. We will miss her greatly and know that she is always with us. The family requests that all cards or gifts are sent to 951 Day Hollow Road #1, Endicott, NY 13760. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Humane Society. There will be a celebration in Chrissy’s honor at Hickories Park (359 Hickories Park Rd. Owego, NY 13827)Pavilion 3 on Sunday, August 30th from 1-4 pm. Remarks at 2pm. Tie-Dyes Welcome, Masks Required.  During these times of COVID we ask that you RSVP if you plan on attending. Adam Miller 607-785-0358 (call) Zach Miller 607-760-6241 (text) Jesi Miller 585-330-4547 (text)   Death Is Nothing At All   Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room.   Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.   Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.   Play, smile, think of me. Let my name be ever the household word that is always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.   There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner.   All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!   Henry Scott-Holland (1847 - 1918)
