Dawn Sharer Obituary

Dawn M. Sharer slipped quietly and gently into eternity on March 22, 2019.

She was born in Westover, NY, on September 23, 1941.  She was predeceased by her parents, Frederik & Helen Schmitt.  Her sisters Betty and Mary Birch, Shirley Van Kuren,  and Barbara Summa, her brothers, Glen Birch, and Chet and Jerry Schmitt.  Her in-laws, James and Myrtle Augurson, George E. Sharer, Ronald and Shirley Sharer and Joyce and Ida Sharer and the love of her life, her husband Robert E Sharer and sweet baby granddaughter Sara Sharer. She leaves behind her surviving siblings Billy and Fred Schmitt and Robert Birch and her sister Dianne Summa.  She leaves behind brothers in law, Gary, Doug and Dale Sharer and sisters in law Susan Bentley, Sherrie Jacobs and many nieces and nephews,

She leaves behind her beloved children Robert and Wendy Sharer, Rebecca and Chuck Messina, her cherished grandchildren Mathew Messina, Heather Messina, and one greatly loved little great granddaughter Willow Seay

Dawn was a person who adored children and they adored her.  For many years she did childcare in her home and for many years watched Meagan Plasse.  And in more recent years her little great nieces Abigail and Jillian Rodzinka.  She was the fun aunt that kids just gravitated towards. Great Nieces Madison Craft and Vanessa Rodzinka loved doing crafts with “Aunt Dawnie”. She was the “go to” for so many of her family. If anyone was in need they knew where to turn.

Dawn loved to bowl and she was in many leagues at Sunset lanes where she made many friends.  She loved the Angels (mostly because they were owned by her idol Gene Autry) and She loved the Yankees (mostly because she loved Derek Jeter) . She loved to sew and over the years made many beautiful clothes for the children in her life. (and for their dolls) She loved to paint and loved crafts and had a real talent for them.

But her biggest talent and what she will be most remembered for was her heart.

Ironically she was born with a very unhealthy heart and the doctors didn’t give her much hope of reaching adulthood. But despite the odds and despite the numerous open-heart surgeries her unhealthy heart kept right on beating. But that heart held more love and more joy than many healthy ones do.  She loved with her whole heart.  She and Bob had a marriage that lasted till death and even after. When he died a part of her went with him. But she went on. She was an amazing and patient mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful sister and aunt and friend.

Now Dawn is with Bob and Sara again and she is whole and happy and her flawed unhealthy heart is perfect.  And we mourn her passing but we rejoice for we know that Heaven is even sweeter now that she’s there. We will miss her terribly until that sweet day we’ll be reunited again.

Her life will be celebrated at a memorial service to be held at 2:00 pm Saturday March 30 at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. The family will greet friends from 1:00-2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
