Elizabeth Ann Jones

Elizabeth “ Missy “ Jones entered heaven this past week after a long , painful struggle with cancer. She was born to Florence and Richard Jones, and was raised by her loving mother and step father Don Stevens . Beth was predeceased by her parents, all of her siblings, Edward, Bea, David and Doug, her beloved nephew Eddie as well as her wonderful friend and missionary partner Rachel Schildroth. Surviving Beth are her cherished nieces and nephews, Robert, Kim, Phil, Tina, Steve, Laura, Scott, Mike, Kelly, Carrie and Dawn. Her special friend, wife of Doug, Patti. Her sister in law Joyce. There are many surviving Beth she held dear and considered family, she referred to them as such. Her pastor and friend Nathan and his wife Karol. Her adored Liberian family, Alenton, Akuba, their children and grandchildren. Her wonderful friends and sisters in Christ, Lynn and Opal. Her very best friend, caregiver and ministry partner, Sue Benson.
Beth was a mere 15 when she was given her first Bible at a youth rally. She accepted Jesus as her savior that same day. Thus began her lifelong service to God. Beth earned her Masters degree from Baptist Bible Seminary in Christian education. In 1970 , Beth made her first trip to Liberia to teach children. She fell in love at once with evangelism and the Liberians whom she would come to call “ her people “. For the next 52 years, the Lord granted her hearts desire to work with “ her people “ in Africa and Staten Island. Her work involved both academic and Bible teachings   While her gift has always been her ability to connect with children, she also greatly loved teaching the Liberian women to read for they longed to read their Bibles. Beth was always open handed with both her time and money. One Liberian said “ if you need something, ask Missy, she will help you “.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday May 30th at Grace Baptist Church, 33 Howard St Binghamton. Burial will be on Tuesday at 10 am in New Milford Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Repentance Baptist Church, 70 Vanderbilt Ave Staten Island NY 10304.
