Janice I. (Fields) Mitteer, 74, passed away Sunday November 14, 2021 after a brief stay at the Susquehanna Nursing Home. Born in Johnson City, Janice grew up in the Southern Tier, attended Vestal Schools and graduated from Vestal High School.
Janice enjoyed being around people and much of her work life reflected that, beginning at the Vestal Theater and then many years in the hospitality industry in various roles. As a morning hostess in places like the Residence Inn and other local hotels, she had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. Her biggest joy was as a homemaker and spending more than 50 years raising their 3 incredible children and celebrating her 3 grandchildren.
Janice also enjoyed working with her husband Tom and their best friends Bill and Barb Kilts with NASCAR. They spent several years traveling the northeast in their motorhomes while working the races.
Janice was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, in June of this year, their daughter Deborah, and her parents, Ray and Irene Fields. She is survived by her sons Jeffrey (Annemarie) Mitteer and Thomas Mitteer II, her grandchildren Peyton and Ryan Mitteer, as well as Deborah’s son Gavin Singer, siblings, James Fields, Shirley Kelly, Roy Fields, Joseph Fields, Robert Drum and brother-in-law Wayne Mitteer, as well as several In-Laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:15 am Thursday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton (Due to road construction approach from Bevier St). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 am Thursday at St. Vincent Blessed Sacrament Church in Vestal.
