Mahlon F. Guernsey, 80, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday September 30, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Amelia Guernsey and his mother Vera Cox Guernsey. Mahlon is survived by his wife of 56 years Blanche Rote Guernsey, children Harold (Laura) Guernsey and Dawn Guernsey (Jason), grandchildren Megan and Eric Guernsey, James and Jack Ellis, Heather and Trey Stagaman, Logan and Cole Mullenax, brother Dawson (Elaine) Guernsey, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mahlon was taught from a young age to be of service to others, and for over 65 years he strived to that end. From the early beginnings of getting up on Sunday mornings to start the wood furnace at the church so it would be warm for services, to cleaning dishes in the school cafeteria, to playing saxophone in the school marching band. After graduation Mahlon join the U.S. Air Force where he served for 4 years then went on to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard for almost 21 years. After retirement from the military Mahlon worked as a courier at SUNY Binghamton and drove school bus for the Windsor school district. He also served the Town of Windsor for many years on the zoning board and was a member and Past Master of Windsor Lodge 442 F.&A.M. a recipient of the Grand Lodge Dedicated Service Award, a member of Vallonia Chapter #80 R.A.M., a Grand Representative to Ohio, as well as being a Life Member of the Windsor V.F.W

Funeral services will held11 am Thursday October 4 at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-7 pm.
