Robert Sloan Obituary

Please join the family of Chenango Bridge, New York's Robert "Bob" Sloan as we celebrate his graduation to Heaven.   A blessing to this world for almost 87 years, Bob joins his mother Maude Sloan, his father and stepmother Robert and Eleanor Sloan, and a very large cheering section who are waiting for him!  A gifted athlete raised in Glens Falls, New York, it was impressively clear at an early age that Bob had a God-given talent as an artist.  With a degree from RIT and Army service under his belt, Bob moved to Binghamton in 1961 and joined the Singer-Link Company's Art Department.  Although he retired as Art Director after 36 years, he continued taking tremendous pleasure in designing caricatures, charcoal portraits, and paintings that adorn countless homes, museums, businesses, venues, and offices of professional athletes.  When a reference inspired him, Bob would gift his own rendition.  Though never asking for anything in return, it was not uncommon for him to receive phone calls and thank you letters accompanied by signed memorabilia from sports figures such as NY Giants' owner Wellington Mara and players Mark Bavaro and Saquon Barkley, Dennis Rodman, and Slap Shots' real "Hanson Brothers" to name a few.  Bob not only calligraphed and displayed Vincent Van Gogh's "To know God is to love many things," he also embraced and lived it.   A rich man in the intangibles - love, respect, relationships, hope, faith, loyalty, gratitude, and memories, he knew what was most important. Bob fiercely loved his family.  From coaching Chenango Bridge Little League to chaperoning a French class Quebec trip to co-creating his wife Nancy's craft ideas, he was front and center at their events dedicating all he had to their happiness, well-being, and success.  Not sweating the small stuff was another one of Bob's strengths; instead he poured his energy into humor.  His "Sloan Dome" became a neighborhood "temple" year after year where all were welcome on NY Giant Sundays - good food and eye-watering laughter were each week's memory.  He was a great listener who could talk sports and history like a scholar and his poetic (often comical) prose just flowed.  Bob's Homecoming is bittersweetly announced by his adored wife of 58 years Nancy, son Dana, daughter Ronne Sisco and son-in-law Kent, son Colin and daughter-in-law Gina, two grandsons Kellan and Dominic, three granddaughters Ramsey, Davy, and Rylan, sister-in-law Judy Marcus, many nieces and nephews and their families, forever family member Jeff Boyer, and dear friend Al Weinberg.  Per Bob's wishes, there will be no formal services.  Instead, we ask those of you who were ever a part of this amazing man's life to think of a fond memory with him that makes you smile and probably laugh!  You are invited to share a memory in Bob's online guestbook on this page.  "Who loves ya, baby?!"
