Sandra George Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sandra George (née Rollison), our beloved matriarch, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, wife, and friend. After seventy-four years full of love and wry laughter, on February 3, 2023, her life turned toward the eternal, and she will be forever missed and loved by the countless lives she touched.

Sandy was born in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, on July 28, 1948. At age three, she and her family moved to the Binghamton area. Growing up, Sandy began her long life of entrepreneurial adventure at a young age, from babysitting and running a paper route with her brother as a child to completing barber school. As a young adult, she sold Avon and magazines door to door, earned her real estate license, and owned and operated a liquor store. Before their retirement, she was the owner-operator of Dave George’s Truck Center with her husband. Sandy possessed a rare combination of creativity and financial savvy, making her a trailblazer in business and an inspiration for those around her.

Sandy reconnected with her artistic side later in life, teaching herself to paint digitally to share her art with her family and friends. She was a well-known figure in several online drawing clubs and art communities, serving as moderator for multiple Facebook art groups where she was a kind and supportive presence to her artist friends. While she charted many adventures in life, her most significant achievements were the relationships she formed and the love she shared.

As she heads toward her reunion with her predeceased husband, David George; parents, Hazel and Clyde Rollison; and grandparents, Ray and Alice Rollison and Elizabeth and Nate Wood, Sandy is celebrated by her brother Ronnie Rollison (Joanie); her children, Kimberly Gulick, Stephen Hammond, Milo George (Karen), Amber George (Jacob), Paige George, and Crystal Luce (Gary – predeceased); her grandchildren, Amanda (Devon), Tyler, Zacharee, Brittnee, Aviva, Zeke, Ezra, and Isabelle; and great-grandchildren Luke and Sawyer. She also leaves behind two nephews, Scott and Shane Rollison, and their families. She will be deeply missed by dear friends Nancy Williams and Missy (Rick) Knight, who were always there for her.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life, will always treasure the sketches she drew and the special books she designed for their birthdays. Sandy had a knack for making birthdays and holidays memorable. She would cook so much delicious foods that she could “feed an army,” and her contagious smile and laughter always brightened the room. Her love for her family was boundless, and her devotion to them was unwavering.

As a mother, Sandy taught her children the importance of hard work, kindness, and unconditional love. She devoted her life to her family, constantly putting their needs before her own. She was a wonderful listener and a constant source of comfort and encouragement for everyone who knew her. She was our pillar of strength and a shining example of what it meant to live a life filled with grace and compassion.

Her love and generosity were only matched by her pragmatism. Sandy’s truism, “It is what it is,” or “what will be, will be,” was not defeatist but rather an acknowledgment that charting one’s own path in life often requires setting the map aside and adjusting your course to the situation before you. Her guidance and wisdom will inspire us for the rest of our lives.

Sandy lived a life full of meaning and purpose. Her passing leaves a massive void in our hearts, but her spirit will live on through her vast gardens, still blooming each spring, the art she has published online, the wild and tame animals she graciously cared for at home, and the family and friends who will always cherish her memory.

A celebration of life for relatives and close friends will be arranged at a later date. Instead of flowers, the family recommends that memorial donations be made in Sandy’s honor to a local, non-profit organization that supports the care of stray and homeless animals.
