Susan Baumlin Obituary

Susan Baumlin (Lepak) passed away peacefully at 4:55pm on 4/22/24 at Guthrie Lourdes, after a brief 6-week battle with lymphoma.  She is survived by her husband of 50 years Craig, daughter Pamela (and husband Rod), son Ken (and wife Ally).  She was predeceased by her father Mel Lepak, her mother Frances Lepak (Wozniak), and her sister Barbara Lepak.
Susan was born in Madison, WI. As an IBM family, she grew up from coast to coast and coined her favorite phrase “I’ll be moving!”  She lived in places like Levittown, PA, Pasadena, CA, and Palatine, IL.  While in Pasadena, her lifelong love of Disney blossomed. On an extra special trip to Disneyland, she met the man himself - Walt Disney… who took the time to take her hand and ask, “Is it magic yet?” After moving to Vestal, NY where she graduated high school, she began curating her love of teaching. She joined Future Teachers of America, attended SUNY Geneseo for her undergrad, and Binghamton University for her Master’s degree. She inspired hundreds of students over her 44 years of teaching in the Binghamton City School District, most notably at Horace Mann.  She expressed her creativity through her writing, with short stories, magazine articles, and book indexing. Over the years, Susan never lost her sense of adventure and love to travel.  She and Craig stole the spotlight when they disco danced to “Celebration” in Aruba, they took a helicopter out to Mendenhall glacier in Alaska, visited the Dole Plantation in Hawaii, and explored Las Cuevas in Madrid, Spain.  There was a special place in her heart for dozens of trips to Walt Disney World and Las Vegas … where she could be immersed in her favorite things, “company and atmosphere.”  She loved seeing the incredible Vegas shows and totally mastered her Keno and Deuces Wild casino games!  She was a social butterfly, and in her mind, there was always a “reason to celebrate” - so raise your glass, and Cheers to you Susan!
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday April 30 at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. Burial will follow at Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
