William Francis Kumpon

KUMPON, William “Bill” Francis, of Flushing, age 81, died Friday, December 28, 2018, at McLaren-Flint Hospital. A Funeral Divine Liturgy will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019 at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Flushing. The Very Rev. James J. Batcha will officiate. Burial will be at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Flint. Visitation will be at Rossell Funeral Home in Flushing on Friday, from 1-4 and 5-8 p.m. with a Parastas service at 7 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Liturgy, with a 10:30 a.m. Panachida service.

Bill was born in Binghamton, New York on November 26, 1937, the son of Francis and Helen (Patrick) Kumpon. He graduated from Binghamton High School and worked for the City of Binghamton before beginning a position with IBM. He moved to Flint, MI in 1966 and worked for AC Spark Plug/GM for 27 years, retiring as a Supervisor in 1997.  He married Josephine Juno on July 15, 1967 at St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church in Flint, MI. They were married for 32 years until Josephine's death in September of 1999.

 
Bill loved to bowl, play golf, play poker and played on a pool league.  He was inducted into the Flint Bowling Hall of Fame on October 7, 2007 and even played a year on the Pro Bowling Tour.  He used to enjoy being a glass blower.  He loved to spend time with his granddogs.  He was a devoted family man.
 

Bill is survived by his children, Dawn (Michael) Davis, William Kumpon, Jr.; granddogs, Beetlejuice, Licorice, and Chester; all of Flushing; sister-in-law, Marilyn Kumpon of Johnson City, New York; brothers-in-law, George (Suzanne) Juno of Flushing and Robert (Pat) Juno of Anderson, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews, including Rick Kumpon.  He was preceded in death by his wife Josephine, his brother Richard, his parents Frank and Helen and his in-laws George and Pauline Juno.
