It was such an honor and a treat to get to know Helen; she brought a special vibrancy to our family gatherings. She was always so warm and kind to me and my brother, and I was astounded by her talent when I saw some of her many beautiful creations. She was such a wonderful companion to my grandfather, and I'm so grateful they found each other for all their years of adventure together in Florida and Binghamton. (Their banter could put a smile on anyone's face:)) I am so sorry for your family's loss, but please know what an amazing impact Helen had on so many people's lives. She will be missed.

Where do I start. The first time that I met your mother was on a nice summer day during yard sale times. My mother and I had found some stone slates and marbled wood pieces. She had come down talked with us told us what line of arts she was into and bought them all. She came by later in her car and picked them up. After a couple months went by my mother and I started going over to see her. We grew to love her. I called her Gram Payne. She loved having us over. I started bringing my daughter over and she fell in love with her right away. I hadn't been over to see her since before I had found out I was gonna have another baby. Gram Payne I'm so glad that my mom myself and my daughter got to be a part of your life. I'll never forget the goodbye's we shared when we kissed cheeks. Also thank u to Doug for letting us get to know your mom's best friend Bear. RIP to you both.

Hard to believe it has been over 50 years since Mrs. Payne tried to keep Larry and I from disrupting the church services with our running commentary. I've still got a ceramic "gum parker" that I made in Cub scouts.

Rest in peace and congratulations on a life well lived.

Mrs. Payne taught us ceramics when we were in Cub Scouts, when the Payne family lived on Bevier Street. Larry and Doug, your mother was a good friend to my mother and our family. Please know that my heart is with you at this time.

Dear Doug & family,

We are very sorry for your loss and send our sincere condolences. Your mom was a very, very nice person and we will miss her greatly, as we know you will too. While her passing leaves a void, we know that she has moved on to a better place with no pain or suffering - - just great vistas for her to paint and enjoy.

We were so glad to have known Helen. She added much to our lives. We are thankful that she and my Dad, Harold, had many happy years sharing their friendship. . They loved their time together in Florida, their other travels, talking about dolls and antiques and nice visits and meals. They were blessed to have found each other in their later stages of life.

Helen was fun. We know how much she loved all people, especially her family and friends. She also was tremendously artistic. She also was so talented in many arts, especially painting. Her work was so good - detailed, subtle and professional. Her artwork and the students she trained are a continuing part of her legacy.

While we are sad at her passing, we celebrate her life, because it was a good and full one. We will keep her and you all in our prayers.

I spent many a happy hour in Helen's basement on Bevier Street. The Christmas tree I made sits on dinning room table every Christmas. The pumpkin in the window.
