Edgar Abram, 88, passed away November 15, 2014 after a valiant battle with ALS, connected to his military service in WWII. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Joanne, his daughter and son-in-law, Toni and Owen Brown, stepdaughter Debbie Jane Saastamoinen, 4 grandchildren Arianna, Sam, Andy and Monique Saastamoinen, who learned from Ed's example and  is following in his footsteps, great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law Vincent Gallagher. He was predeceased by his first wife Natalie, his parents Anton and Meta, his sister Marba Struble, foster sister Alice Hammelman and aunts Frances Procknow, Mary Blimke and Rose Newrocki and an uncle, Frank Mollnhauer. Born in Chicago, Ed's family moved to Ouaquaga, NY in 1938. He graduated from Windsor High School, before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1944.  He served in the South Pacific and Japan with the 503rd Regiment. attaining the rank of staff sergeant. After the war, Ed worked as a janitor for the Windsor School District before attending Cornell University, graduating in the class of 1951. He earned a Masters Degree in Education from SUNY Cortland in 1957 and began a long career teaching in the Windsor School District. He taught Earth Science, Photography and Electronics classes, as well as serving as the faculty advisor to many school clubs. He was the JV wrestling, football and baseball coach, varsity bowling coach, as well as an assistant principal from 1970-78. He actively participated in many radio controlled aircraft events and organizations and was Chairman of national committees in the 1960's. Ed was a member of the Binghamton Breakfast Sertoma Club and was also a noted entertainer in the Binghamton area, playing piano and singing in many area clubs over the years, most recently at The Whole in the Wall Restaurant in Binghamton until February, 2014, where he also hosted and made many dear friends. For many years he attended and played piano at the 503rd Airborne Static Line reunions in Atlanta. He attended the Community of Christ Church in Johnson City and was a life member of VFW Post 478.
     Memorial services will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. Tom Snethen will officiate. Burial will follow in Knox Cemetery, Ouaquaga. The family will receive friends at the funeral home  Wednesday from Noon- 1:00 pm. 
     Ed's family wishes to extend special appreciation and gratitude for their church family at Community of Christ Church for their care and acts of kindness during Ed's illness, as well as Lourdes Hospital staff for the exceptional care they provided to Ed, especially Dr. Singh, and to Eliot Fiks for his loyal friendship and weekly visits.
