I did not really know Joel personally, but our paths crossed one dark and rainy night in 1980 on the streets of Binghamton. I was picking my wife up at the bus station and was driving her 1975 Ford Gran Torino. It was known for electrical and starting issue quirks and sure enough, after my wife arrived the car would not start. I had the hood up and was fiddling around under there when a truck pulled up and a handsome young man came up to me and asked if I was having trouble and if he could help. In short order, he diagnosed the problem and left to get a part for the car...I think it was a new solenoid. Within a short time, he was back, installed the part and the car started right up. I asked him how much I owed him and he told me not to worry about it and would not take my money. I said "Wow...thanks man!" I offered him a handshake of friendship and said, "By the way, what's your name?" He shook my hand, said I'm Joel Christian, and.got in his truck and drove away. I got back into the car and my wife said "Hey, who was that guy?" I told her "He said his name was Joel Christian, but I think he was really an angel sent from God!" Rest in peace, Joel...God bless you for being a kind and caring young man a little over 35 years ago to a couple of strangers who needed a helping hand!
